Why are we so compelled to fill out those personality questionnaires to find out more about our inner desires, past lives, our likes and tendencies?
Ego, self-worth, curiousity. And who doesn’t have a burning desire to know what exactly makes them tick, along with what sort of animal they most closely resemble.
Today, I filled out a Personality Test HERE (http://www.16personalities.com). It turns out, I am a Debater.
ENTP PERSONALITY (“THE DEBATER”)
Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the dangers of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of ‘crack-pot’ than the stigma of conformity. And on issues that seem important to you, stand up and be counted at any cost.
If the truth be known, I am a debater. I have mentioned prior to this post my hard- headed-ness and now I have proof of that fact!
An odd juxtaposition arises with ENTPs, as they are uncompromisingly honest, but will argue tirelessly for something they don’t actually believe in, stepping into another’s shoes to argue a truth from another perspective.
Eek, the aforementioned ‘truth be known’ may be true as well. I am thinking perhaps I was a tad too HONEST with my replies to the questions? I am, however in great company: Alfred “Weird Al” Yankovic, Tom Hanks, Sarah Silverman, Céline Dion, Adam Savage, Thomas Edison, Mark Twain and Jack SPARROW (ha, they said it, not I)
I do like a feisty debate and I cannot lie. What surprises me is that it has taken a test taken over the internet to point out what should have been a tad more obvious to me, prior to now. I hesitate to agree that a ‘debater’ encompasses all my traits. I would vigorously argue that point.
I won’t quote further from my results as there is a lot of information provided in these categories:
I’m unsure, but I believe the test is based on Briggs Myers Personality testing which is widely used by Human Resource Departments to help gauge their potential hires.
Curious? Go check it out. It says it takes 12 minutes, but I was done in 7. I must be brilliant too, right?

You’re not alone, Lesley, in being curious about yourself in that way. Millions of people take those ‘what are your strengths,’ or ‘what kind of smart are you’ or ‘are you an introvert or extrovert’ or other such tests. I wonder if it’s because au fond, we don’t really trust our own judgement? Or it could be we’re just fascinated with ourselves. Either way, it’s a fascinating phenomenon, isn’t it?

“We’re just fascinated with ourselves.” You really made me giggle. Hope you will let us know how you fared. I think you may also be a closet debater.
