Creative Commons

There has been a fair amount of copyright talk going about so I thought I would give my personal view/policy on the subject

All of my work is available for sharing including poetry, stories, blog posts, photos, and artwork – I Truly believe that art can only enhance lives… But let’s face it – it’s my work and I really would like credit !! while encouraging distribution in great places or for personal use.

My work falls Under ‘Creative Commons Licensing’  (please see below for a clear definition)

*ALL of the photos and images I post here are attributed to the *original artist/photographer/writer and posted with permission. Quotes are also attributed to the best of my knowledge.

**EXCEPTION – IF THE Image/story/quote is credited to someone else other than Lesley Fletcher please contact that person directly for permission prior to using it. Thanks.

 ¿Re-blogging or Pressing is encouraged and may be done without my permission as long as the accreditation stays in place.

This is the definition from the Creative Commons Website (http://www.creativecommons.org) where one can register their work.

You are free:

  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work

Under the following conditions:

  • Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
  • Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
  • No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

With the understanding that:

  • Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
  • Public Domain — Where the work or any of its elements is in the public domain under applicable law, that status is in no way affected by the license.
  • Other Rights — In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:
    • Your fair dealing or fair use rights, or other applicable copyright exceptions and limitations;
    • The author’s moral rights;
    • Rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such aspublicity or privacy rights.
  • Notice — For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/

Thanks for your Understanding! Sincerely, Lesley Fletcher

  3. That is my fear that my work would be used for someone else’s credit. I have a free copyright service as well that keeps an online file of every keystroke … what prompted this “definition”?

    • It isn’t my definition but that of Creative Commons – I really do believe in sharing and at the same time accreditation. If there is something I don’t want reused (absolutely), and I have a few pieces that fit in that category, then it will be watermarked if posted or it won’t be put into a public domain like the Internet. By offering my work I am combating pilfering in a positive way. I find human nature in general responds well to positively for the most part.

      What prompted me to post this is I saw a post with the initial artwork for a book cover and it had a HUGE banner across it saying ‘DO NOT COPY’ repeated several times. I sincerely wondered at the wisdom of that huge statement thinking perhaps it would have been better Not to Post…

      One way to combat your fear of someone using your work and taking credit is to take your poems and make them into J-Peg format with your name in a clear watermark across it diagonally.

      You are able to register your work at Creative Commons. Let’s face it though – will you go to court over someone using your words? Not likely as it is a costly and time consuming procedure.

      Even if you produce a book of poetry there will be those who pull out what they would like to and use the words as their own.

      Now, with Google, taking a sentence of your own and searching will bring back results of where your work may have ended up but that could drive us all a bit bonkers right?

      What is the name of your free copyright service? That is so interesting!

      • I use “myfreecopyright” and it appears on the bottom of my blog (all my blogs) and each publication I make is sent to my email for record.
        I was curious if something negative had happened. All things I publish are to be published for the general view to admire, despise, react, or cry – it is why we write, is it not? I live, feel and bleed in words … I feel blessed to have this talent and ability – If I could draw more than a stick figure or barren tree then I’d be main stream 🙂 LOL, good day to you!
